Kevin Feige: The MCU has projects planned 5-6 years in advance

Marvel Cinematic Universe boss Kevin Feige discusses his future plans, including how the integration of the X-Men is going. Cause we all know it’s happening.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t settling for being the largest movie franchise in the world; with WandaVision leading the way for a great many high-profile Marvel shows on Disney+, it wants to conquer TV, too. In 2021, Marvel Studios will release more hours of MCU content than ever before. And beyond that, they’re taking steps to make sure their superhero empire stays interesting. Not only are old favorites returning in movies like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessSpider-Man 3 and Deadpool 3, but they’ve also got new characters on the way, including the Fantastic Four and Blade.

Making all of this holds together is no easy task. Speaking to Collider, MCU boss Kevin Feige revealed  just how many years in advance Marvel Studios works on their projects: “To varying degrees of specificity, it’s always about 5 to 6 years out versus what we’ve announced,” he said. “So whatever that takes us to.” This means Marvel Studios is actively working on movies and TV series set to air in 2025 or 2026.

So what could these new projects be? Well, there’s one huge Marvel franchise that the MCU has barely even hinted at yet, but we know has to be coming after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox: the X-Men. It’s a matter of “when,” not “if” at this point. The big puzzle is how to introduce the X-Men, and the idea of mutants in general, when it involves so many characters and complex stories. I wouldn’t want that job, but Feige seems more than game. “It has been heavily discussed, as you might imagine,” he said. “And we have a good feeling of where it’s going and when it’s going, but that all remains to be seen.”

If anybody can do it, it’s Feige.

But really, there’s no need to think that far into the future when the present is just as fascinating, which is to say that WandaVision is airing now on Disney+!

The first two episodes of WandaVision are strange, charming and disturbing. dark. Next
