Between House of the Dragon, The Lord of the Rings and The Wheel of Time, TV is about to be flooded with big-budget fantasy epics. Let’s talk about it:
This week on Take the Black, we’re talking about big-time fantasy TV shows coming right over the horizon. HBO is making House of the Dragon, a fabulously expensive prequel to Game of Thrones. And Amazon is trying to one-up them by making two fabulously expensive fantasy shows: one set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth and one that adapts Robert Jordan’s epic The Wheel of Time novels.
Also, we’re getting more word that the ending to George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire will be “very different” than what happened in the back half of Game of Thrones. I think we all knew that was true to some extent, but the question is: how much?
What’s it gonna be like when House of the Dragon, The Wheel of Time and Amazon’s Lord of the Rings show are on at the same time? Will we have an epic fantasy TV show battle on our hands? There are worse problems to have.
