Andrew Lincoln: The Rick Grimes movies could film as soon as this Spring
By Ariba Bhuvad
Updates on the Rick Grimes movies have been few and far between, but it looks like we might finally have some concrete information. While doing an interview about his Netflix film Penguin Bloom, Lincoln was asked about the upcoming Walking Dead movies starring his character, who left the show a while back.
We’ve come to accept vague, unclear answers to this question, however, this time around, Lincoln gave us something solid:
"Good intentions. If everything works and I can leave my country, I plan to be back in America filming spring/summer."
Lincoln is currently back home in London, and as of the beginning of January, Prime Minister Boris Johnson had ordered another shutdown of the United Kingdom until at least through mid-February, and that’s saying nothing of US-based travel restrictions. So precisely when the Rick Grimes movies can begin production is all contingent on future lockdown plans/extensions.
What will the Rick Grimes movies be about?
Lincoln left The Walking Dead back in season 9, in the episode “What Comes After.” Ever since that day, we’ve been waiting patiently for Rick Grimes to reappear.
The plots of the upcoming movies are under lock and key, but a lot of emphases has been placed on the spin-off show The Walking Dead: World Beyond, which is meant to bridge the gap between the story we know and the story we’ve yet to learn about.
There is a lot of hype surrounding the Rick Grimes movies, and with the original series finally wrapping up, many of us are curious to see exactly where this franchise is headed. I’m just hoping that they explain why Rick hasn’t tried to reunite with his family in all this time. Perhaps amnesia? Perhaps he’s grappling with some powerful organization and fears putting them in danger?
Hopefully, we’ll find out soon.
