The Flash season 7 trailer teases the Mirrorverse and a dwindling Speed Force

The Flash season 7 is zooming into our lives in exactly a month. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, The Flash had to cut its sixth season short, which left many storylines uncompleted and unresolved.

Based on the new trailer below, it appears that the series is hoping to remedy that by picking up right where we last left the Scarlet Speedster (Grant Gustin): attempting to rescue his wife, Iris (Candice Patton) from the Mirrorverse. But with the Speed Force damaged, it could be rough going.

It’s unclear how, but the trailer reveals he will figure out a way to get to Iris, probably by exhausting every ounce of Speed Force he has left in him. Could this be the end of the Flash as we know it? Probably not, but it makes for some interesting theories as to where The Flash season 7 will lead us.

Of course, there are many other storylines that The Flash has to address, including but not limited to Hartley Sawyer’s Ralph Dibny. Sawyer was promptly fired from the series after racist and misogynistic tweets resurfaced last year.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly last August, executive producer Eric Wallace shared exactly how they are going to tackle the Ralph Dibny/Sue Dearbon storyline in season 7:

"Ralph is a guy who can change faces and his appearance in many ways. Without giving any spoilers away, there are a couple of ways that we can have Elongated Man still appear in at least one episode this season to wrap that storyline up, that gets us what we need and still allows fans to say goodbye to the character, at least for the indefinite future."

The Flash has a lot of ground to cover to make up for lost time, and with all these unexpected obstacles, fans are eager to get going.

Will The Flash season 7 be entirely about the Mirrorverse?

Hopefully not! I’m hoping that this is a brief two (max three) episode arc that wraps up everything from last season. I’m not sure that it can be done, but the sooner they can move on, the better.

Let’s just hope that Iris is rescued, Eva McCulloch (Efrat Dor) is imprisoned, and Sue Dearbon (Natalie Dreyfuss) is found innocent of the crimes she was framed for. It’s a lot to tackle in just a few episodes, but we need to move on from it as quickly as possible so we can get into the real meat of The Flash season 7: Chillblaine.

Chillblaine, aka Mark Stevens, is a cryogenic scientist who is going to present many, many problems for Team Flash. I’m curious to see how he matches up against Captain Cold. For any Shadowhunters fans out there, Jon Cor is playing the role!

The Flash season 7 premieres on The CW on March 2 (delayed a week to make room for the 2-hour Superman & Lois series premiere).

And if you need even more Flash in your life, Warner Bros. is putting out Justice Society: World War II, where the Flash (voiced by Doom Patrol’s Matt Bomer) travels back in time to help Wonder Woman, Hawkman and other members of the Justice Society fight the Nazis.

Justice Society: World War II arrives on digital and Blu-ray later this year.

Finally, Disney released a trailer for the show Behind the Mask, a documentary series about the backstories of iconic Marvel heroes.

Behind the Mask premieres on Disney+ on February 12.
