Warner Bros. is hyping up its new Mortal Kombat movie, which is landing in theaters and on HBO Max on the same day.

Video game movies have a reputation for being crap, but a lot of people have fondness for the 1995 adaptation of Mortal Kombat, which stayed on the right side of cheesy and delivered some seriously fun action scenes.

Over 25 years later, and video games have come a loooong way, to the point where you can turn to them for your narrative entertainment over movies and TV shows if you want. And now Warner Bros. is bringing us a new Mortal Kombat movie, informed by the last quarter century of games:

The official character posters dropped on Twitter today. Let’s take a look, starting with quite possibly the most iconic Mortal Kombat character, Scorpion:

Scorpion is mostly on the side of the baddies. Not so for Jax:

Tadanobu Asano will play the lightning-powered Raiden:

Liu Kang is traditionally the hero of the Mortal Kombat series:

And Kung Lao is his pal:

But this movie will introduce an original character in the lead: Cole Young.

Sonya Blade is another one of the good guys:

While Shang Tsung is the baddie supreme:

Mileena usually wears a mask, but takes it off for special occasions:

Wanted criminal Kano, everyone:

And we’ll end with Sub-Zero, the most iconic Mortal Kombat character next to Scorpion:

As the tweets remind us, there’s a trailer for the movie coming tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m.

As for the movie itself, it’ll be out on April 16, in theaters and on HBO Max. Fight!
