Wesley Snipes’ portrayal of vampire hunter Eric Brooks in the beloved Blade movie trilogy will always be remembered as one of his finest. The Marvel Comics character was never the best-known superhero in the roster, but Snipes’ performance went a long way towards making him more popular; there was even a 2006 Blade TV show, with rapper Sticky Fingaz as Brooks.

Now, Marvel Studios is preparing to bring Blade into the MCU with his own movie starring Mahershala Ali, and Snipes wants in. That said, of course he’s completely behind Ali taking over the title role. “I’m one thousand percent supportive of it,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “I think it’s great. Go for it, my man.”

"You never know. Under the right circumstances, I’m open to play with everybody. I know that people associate me with that role. The Daywalker community out there is a part of the Daywalker clique and our global community identifies with a little bit of that world and the new definition of Daywalkers, these global hyphenated multitalented individuals capable doing more things at one time — skill masters, as we call them. So, we gon’ keep going, we gon’ keep bringing.”"

I’d love for Snipes to make a cameo appearance as a different character. Anything more than that might take the limelight off Ali. It’s worth noting that Marvel is currently getting way into the multiverse, with rumors that past versions of Spider-Man could show up in the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland. So maybe Snipes could even play his original version of Blade.

People told Wesley Snipes not to play Blade in the original movie

Interestingly, Snipes was advised not to take the role of Blade in the original 1998 movie, perhaps because superhero films weren’t the fame-making blockbusters they are now. “The irony of the whole thing is that when I chose to do the film, the first Blade, most of the representation I had at the time suggested I shouldn’t do it,” he said. “[They] were absolutely against me taking on the role. And now look what it turned out to be. Who knew? But we ain’t done yet.”

We’re so thankful he went for it!

We don’t yet have a premiere date for Marvel’s new Blade movie. The film was first unveiled during San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, but since then things have been pretty quiet. We know that Watchmen writer Stacy Osei-Kuffour is writing the script.
