1. Robert Aramayo

Robert Aramayo is the first and most obvious choice to play young Ned because he already played the character in that Game of Thrones flashbacks we’ve talked about, and perfectly embodied the honorable youth who would go on to become the Warden of the North. We want to Ned to have the steel and honor we remember, but be a bit more vulnerable in his younger days. Aramayo has that.

Also, he’ll be a bigger name by the time this project comes out, as he’s slated to star in Amazon’s upcoming Lord of The Rings TV series. He’ll be the right age and have the right look and experience to play the part.

2. Matthew Lewis

Matthew Lewis is best known for playing Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter movies, but we haven’t seen too much of him since. Neville always had a core of decency that would fit Ned well; it’s easy to sympathize with him. And we’ll be sympathizing a lot with Ned, as he loses basically his entire family over the course of Robert’s bloody rebellion.

3. Tom Sturridge

If you’re not familiar with Tom Sturridge’s work yet, you will be soon. He’s landed the lead role in Netflix’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman. If that show turns out half as well as people expect, Sturridge’s already great career is likely to take off in a big way. With his brooding brow, he’d be a great choice to take on a young Ned.
