Game of Thrones: Let’s dreamcast a Robert’s Rebellion prequel show
Hoster Tully
1. Hugh Laurie
The only time we saw Lord Hoster Tully on Game of Thrones, he was already dead, floating down the river on his funeral pyre. The Hoster Tully of this period is one of the more formidable, strong-willed lords in the country.
Hugh Laurie has made a career out of playing powerful men with honorable intentions and vulgar sensibilities (House, Veep, Avenue 5). And, while he’s rarely crossed over into outright fantasy, he was on the historical fiction comedy Black Adder, which is close enough. He’s skilled at playing leaders of men and would be an inspired choice for the Tully patriarch.
2. John Rhys-Davies
Okay, Drew, we get it: you love The Lord of the Rings. I promise this is the last actor from one of cinema’s greatest franchises that I’m going to ask HBO cast in this adaptation. John Rhys-Davies (Gimli) is no stranger to medieval worlds or to playing strong characters. He could also bring a refreshing sense of humor to the role that could help ground the character
3. Brendan Gleeson
Here’s an actor that can pretty much do anything. I really just want to see him somewhere in this world riding a horse, feasting in a great hall and flourishing a cape. He has an extensive resume in fantasy and historical epics (Braveheart, Kingdom of Heaven, the Harry Potter movies) as well as a reputation for playing hardened yet lovable characters navigating difficult circumstances.
