1. Chiwetel Ejiofor

An older version of Jon Connington shows up in the later A Song of Ice and Fire books, but he was cut from Game of Thrones. A Robert’s Rebellion spinoff gives us a chance to get to know him. Chiwetel Ejiofor would be perfect as a young lord willing to put his life on the line for his best friend/abiding crush Rhaegar Targaryen. He plays noble characters well as seen in movies like 12 Years a Slave, but could also bring a dangerous edge to his performance.

2. John Boyega

Boyega deserves more chances to shine after the Star Wars franchise screwed him over. How about a meaty role in another developing franchise where he would get to play a young, noble warrior with more depth than FN-187. Connington is riding high on glory and valor throughout the rebellion, becoming Aerys’ Hand of the King and hunting down Robert Baratheon. It all comes crashing down, though. Boyega could do a thrilling job of tracing Jon’s fall (and if we ever get a complete adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, perhaps his rise from the ashes).

3. Jude Law

This is a stretch, but why not? Law seems like he would fit comfortably into the Game of Thrones universe. He radiates a kind of base decency that would fit Jon Connington well, although he’s probably too old to play Jon Connington during Robert’s Rebellion. But if they ever want to remake Game of Thrones and add Connington back in, he’d be a perfect choice.
