Rose Leslie (Ygritte) lands lead role in HBO’s The Time Traveler’s Wife
Game of Thrones alum Rose Leslie (Ygritte) is returning to HBO, but this time she’s jumping into the lead role in Stephen Moffat’s adaptation of The Time Traveler’s Wife. Per Digital Spy, the project has been in the works since 2018, and is moving forward now that the series leads have been cast.
The Time Traveler’s Wife is a love story with a science fiction twist. It’s the story of a woman named Clare Abshire (Leslie) who grows up thinking that she has an imaginary friend, only to find out that Henry (Theo James) is actually a time traveler.
Over the years they see each other at different points in each other’s lives and their destinies have always been tied together. Just because they have been fated to fall in love doesn’t mean that their relationship will be easy, because they’re always being torn apart.
Moffat is the perfect person to bring the new series to life after working for several seasons on beloved sci-fi series Doctor Who. Both shows deal with the ability to move through time and space and the complex emotions tied with knowing one’s past and future. The whole thing even sounds a little like the relationship between the Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond, who adopted him as her imaginary friend when he met her childhood self while traveling through time.
Rose Leslie has been busy since her time on Game of Thrones
Leslie appeared on Game of Thrones from 2012 to 2014, playing Jon Snow’s fierce wildling paramour Ygritte. Since her departure from the series she starred as Gwen Harding on Downton Abbey and as Maia Rindell on The Good Fight. She will also appear in the upcoming movie Death on the Nile, based on Agatha Christie’s classic story, coming in September.
Game of Thrones will always be special for Rose, as it was where she met her husband Kit Harington. The couple recently celebrated the birth of their son in February 2021.
This isn’t the first time The Time Traveler’s Wife has come to life. It was also a 2009 tearjerker of a movie starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana as the star crossed lovers.
In other Game of Thrones celeb news, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) is hosting a documentary all about his adopted country of Greenland, called Through Greenland. Take a look:
