The Witcher casts fan favorite sorceress character

The Witcher has finally cast Philippa Eilhart, a sorceress who plays a pretty big part in Geralt’s story going forward.

After numerous pandemic-related delays, filming on the second season of The Witcher is finally barreling along, and reliable fansite Redanian Intelligence has a juicy bit of casting news: British actor Cassie Clare will play sorceress Philippa Eilhart.

One of the oldest and most powerful sorceresses on the Continent, Philippa eventually becomes the leader of the Lodge of Sorceresses. She can also turn into an owl, which is pretty neat.

The second season of The Witcher is set to adapt Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel Blood of Elves. That’s when Philippa gets introduced, so it makes sense to bring her in now. That said, the first season went beyond the scope of Sapkowski’s early Witcher books (which focus pretty tightly on Geralt of Rivia) and showed us some of what the sorcerers and sorceresses of the Continent were getting up to. Fans expected to see Philippa show up then, but it didn’t happen. Better late than never.

As for Cassie Clare, she got her start singing and dancing in stage musicals before showing off what she could do in movies and TV shows like Beauty and the Beast and Brave New World. Philippa Eilhart may be her most visible role yet.

There’s no firm release date for The Witcher season 2 as of yet, but we can probably expect it later this year.
