The second season of The Witcher is coming together. Last week we learned that the show had cast Cassie Clare as Philippa Eilhart, a fan favorite sorceress character we’d feared was cut when she wasn’t mentioned in season 1. And now, The Hollywood Reporter has news of several more characters joining the fun.
Probably the biggest is Rience, a mage instructed to hunt down Princess Ciri, who you’ll recall met up with Geralt of Rivia at the end of the first season after she was orphaned following the fall of the kingdom of Cintra. Chris Fulton, who’s appeared in stuff like Bridgerton and Outlaw King, will play this angry, dangerous villain.
THR also has it that Adjoa Andoh, another Bridgerton alum, will play the stern but caring Nenneke, a priestess of Melitele who helps Geralt heal after a scrap.
Meanwhile, Outlander and The Hobbit star Graham McTavish will play Dijkstra, a spymaster in service to the kingdom of Redania. We’d heard that McTavish was coming aboard a while back, but it’s good to have confirmation.
Moving on, Simon Callow and Liz Carr will play Codringher and Fenn respectively, the founders of a law firm and detective agency in the city of Dorian. Finally, Downton Abbey veteran Devin Doyle will play the part of Ba’lian, who appears to be an original character.
The Matrix and Star Trek veterans join Netflix’s The School for Good and Evil
As long as we’re taking about Netflix adaptations of fantasy series, Deadline reports that heavy-hitters Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix) and Michelle Yeoh (Star Trek: Discovery) have joined the cast of The School for Good and Evil, an upcoming movie based on the book series by Soman Chainani. This series follows best friends Sophie and Agatha, who are admitted to a school that trains kids how to become fairy tale heroes and villains. The catch is that aspiring princess Sophie is admitted into the School for Evil and witchy Agatha into the School for Good. Twist!
Anyway, Fishbourne will play The Schoolmaster while Yeoh will play Professor Anemone. The cast also includes Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, Sofia Wylie and Sophia Anne Caruso, so Netflix is pretty serious about this one.
Neither The Witcher season 2 nor The School for Good and Evil have release dates as of yet.
