13. Jon Snow and Dolorous Edd

What happened to the duo: Here’s another friendship that had a very sad ending. After Jon left the Night’s Watch (because he had died and fulfilled his vow), he left Edd in charge as Lord Commander. And Edd took on that duty. When it came time for the Night’s Watch to join Winterfell in the fight against the White Walkers, Edd led them.

Sadly, Edd would be one of those who didn’t make it out alive. He was killed by one of the wights after saving Sam from one.

It got even worse, unfortunately. Edd was then risen from the dead by the Night King.

Why they were so great: Jon and Edd didn’t always get along. In fact, nobody really got along with Jon at first. It wasn’t until Jon proved himself and earned respect that he formed a great group of friends. The majority of those friends died, with two of them meeting their fate at the Battle of Castle Black.

Edd managed to survive that one. He was loyal to Jon to the end, but Jon was also loyal to his friend. They respected one another’s decisions and even traveled to Hardhome together and faced down the Night King’s army. Jon found brothers in the Night’s Watch that he didn’t really have elsewhere. What wasn’t there to love about this duo?
