9. Arya Stark and Gendry Waters

What happened to the duo: By the time Arya and Gendry reunited, Arya had been on a journey that completely changed her. She still had feelings for Gendry, but not enough to stay with him. However, she did want him to take her virginity.

In the end, Arya left Gendry behind. She decided to see what was west of Westeros, breaking Gendry’s heart.

Yeah, this is another Game of Thrones duo that didn’t have a happy ending, but at least it’s not a tragic one. Maybe there’s hope that the two could end up together eventually?

Why they were so great: Arya and Gendry formed a partnership because of their need to survive. They ended up in trouble after being picked up off the road while on the run from the King’s Landing gold cloaks, in the thick of the War of the Five Kings. Arya managed to escape this predicament, and she wasn’t going to leave Gendry behind.

The two definitely formed a bond of trust during their journey. They looked out for each other, but it all went wrong when Melisandre bought Gendry off the Brotherhood Without Banners and took him away.

There were a lot of what ifs for this couple over the years. It’s no wonder they’re a firm favorite when it comes to Game of Thrones fanfiction.
