8. Jon Snow and Samwell Tarly

What happened to the duo: Sam and Jon remained tight from the first season to the last, although Sam stayed in King’s Landing to serve King Bran while Jon was exiled to the Wall (and possibly beyond). They were very close, so maybe there’s a way they can keep in touch.

Why they were so great: At first, it didn’t look like the two could really be friends. Jon had enough to deal with when he first turned up at Castle Black, and Samwell wasn’t the best fighter. However, Jon realized that Sam offered much more than being able to wield a sword. He was smart and kind and savvy, and proved his worth on many occasions.

Over the seasons, Jon gained a new respect for Sam, and Sam became fervently loyal to Jon. Their friendship held strong, even as the two were separated by distance.

When it came to Jon becoming the Commander of Castle Black, Sam was still by his side. And when Sam wanted to become a maester, Jon supported him. They had the friendship that we all hope to have with someone.
