6. Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister

What happened to the duo: Tyrion saw what Daenerys was becoming and worried about it. The turning point came when he saw the destruction of King’s Landing and the bodies of his siblings in the rubble of the Red Keep. It was after Tyrion threw away the Hand of the Queen brooch that Dany had him arrested.

If it wasn’t for Jon killing Dany, Tyrion would have likely ended up dead.

Why they were so great: Dany and Tyrion weren’t exactly friends, but they were a formidable duo. After Tyrion escaped imprisonment at the hands of his family, he headed across the Narrow Seas and found Daenerys. Dany didn’t initially trust him (her family helped overthrow her father, after all), but eventually Tyrion proved his worth. He was a smart man who understood politics. Dany needed someone like him, and she respected his advice.

It was only at the end that things turned sour because Dany couldn’t see past her fury.
