4. Samwell Tarly and Gilly

What happened to the duo: This was another duo that had a happy ending. After initially saving Gilly to save her son at Craster’s Keep, Gilly and Sam got close. They traveled everywhere, and Sam even broke his vows by having sex with her. He also helped raise her son, and by the end of the series was expected a new chid with her.

That’s where we left things. Jon found out that Sam and Gilly were expecting a child, and couldn’t have been happier (by his standards). One couple needed a happy ending.

Why they were so great: Sam and Gilly initially stuck together due to necessity. Samwell couldn’t stand the thought of Little Sam being sacrificed to the White Walkers and snuck Gilly back south to save her and her baby. They were attacked by a White Walker at one point, and Sam became the first person in millennia to kill one, using a dragonglass dagger.

When Sam left the Wall, he initially planned to leave Gilly with his family, but in the end brought her along with him. We got a chance to see this relationship blossom. There was something magical about this development.
