1. Arya Stark and The Hound

What happened to the duo: This duo ended on a bittersweet note. Arya and the Hound shared a taste for vengeance, but when they were in the Red Keep together — the Hound because he wanted to kill his brother the Mountain and Arya because she wanted to kill Queen Cersei — the Hound gave her a speech that made her see that she still had far too much life left to live to throw it away on revenge. Arya listened and left. Had she not, she probably would have died as Dany torched the Red Keep.

Why they were so great: The Hound kidnapped Arya in season 3 with the intent of selling her back to her family, and along the way they ended up forming a deep understanding. While there were certainly some great comedic moments between the two, these two really helped each other grow as characters. There is no denying that they wouldn’t have ended up as the people they became by the final season if they hadn’t taken their journey together.

The Hound learned more about compassion and love. Arya learned about survival. The Hound taught her initially to fight, and Arya helped the Hound open up a bit about his past trauma.

Yes, this duo didn’t come together by choice, but they forged a unique bond by the end.
