21. Sansa Stark and Theon Greyjoy

What happened to the duo: Sansa and Theon found understanding when they were both at Winterfell under the heel of Ramsay Bolton. They both knew if they didn’t escape, Ramsay would make them miserable for the rest of their lives, if he didn’t kill them.

Once Jon and Sansa got Winterfell back and Theon returned from his own mission, Sansa immediately hugged Theon tight during their reunion. It was clear that the bond that formed between the two of them was stronger than ever.

Sadly, Theon ended up dying at the hands of the Night King during the Battle of Winterfell. We all sensed it would happen, but it didn’t make it any less devastating after his redemption arc. Sansa was the one to say the last goodbye to Theon on the pyre.

Why they were so great: When Game of Thrones originally started, there is no way that anyone would have considered Sansa and Theon getting along. Theon was an egotistical man-child and Sansa was a stuck-up little princess-wannabe.

Their journeys changed them completely, particularly their suffering at the hands of Ramsay Bolton. Theon initially stood by and let it happen, but eventually, he was able to help Sansa escape. And with everything she knew about Ramsay, Sansa could understand Theon’s terror and his reasons for standing by.

Their similar experiences created a bond that could never be broken.
