19. Varys and Olenna Tyrell

What happened to the duo: There wasn’t really a strong partnership here, but there was a fun kinship between these characters. They worked together to try marry Sansa to Loras Tyrell and later against Cersei Lannister alongside Daenerys Targaryen. Olenna’s death brought an end to what could have been a beautiful partnership.

Why they were so great: It wasn’t often that we got to see Varys and Olenna working together. Varys never had any loyalty to the Lannister family. In fact, he was the one who would eventually try to help Daenerys come over from across the Narrow Sea and supplant them. The two were excellent at scheming together and shared a laconic sense of humor. Their focus by the end was just to have who they considered the right person on the throne for the good of the Seven Kingdoms. There’s nothing better than that.

The only sad thing is that we didn’t get enough of the two of them together.
