17. Tyrion Lannister and Podrick Payne

What happened to the duo: This is one of those friendships that had a relatively good ending. When Tyrion was accused of poisoning Joffrey and had to escape, we wondered if the two would ever see each other again, but they eventually found each other when Dany finally made her way across the Narrow Sea.

The ending came in Game of Thrones season 8 when Pod joined the Kingsguard and Tyrion became hand of the King to Bran Stark. They’re basically coworkers for life!

Why they were so great: Podrick was a surprising character. He seemed like someone who would be there as a comedic side part, but ended up connecting with the audience and getting us to root for him.

And when it came to Pod and Tyrion together, there’s no doubt that you rooted for them to meet up with each other again after they were separated by the seas. Game of Thrones just wasn’t right without the two of them.

Tyrion learned a lot about life and being human from Pod. He was already smart, but Pod had a vulnerability that he had long since lost. They were both outsiders, and despite their differences, they understood and trusted each other. And Pod was fiercely loyal to people who earned his trust, even saving Tyrion’s life at the Battle of Blackwater Bay.

The two gave us comedy, but also pathos.
