Donald Faison is trading in his scrubs for a white coat! The Scrubs alum has been cast in the role of Professor Utonium in The CW’s upcoming live-action Powerpuff Girls reboot, according to Variety.

In case you missed the coolest animated superhero series to ever bless the late ’90s, The Powerpuff Girls originally debuted on Cartoon Network back in 1998 and ran for six seasons. It was and remains a cultural phenomenon that inspired anime, films, comics, and more around the world.

The Powerpuff Girls — Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup — are pint-sized superheroes created in a lab when Professor Utonium mixed together sugar, spice, everything nice and (accidentally) Chemical X. Together, these superhero sisters fought evil while dealing with the usual kindergarten-level problems: sibling rivalries, going to school, wetting the bed, hanging on extra tight to your security blanket, and the like.

Along with Donald Faison, Chloe Bennet (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), Dove Cameron (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), and Yana Perrault (Liv and Maddie) will play Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup respectively. Bennet and Cameron played enemies on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. At least this time they’re on the same side!

What will Donald Faison’s Profess Utonium be like?

According to Variety, Faison’s Professor Utonium is “quirky, debonair, and a pinch narcissistic.” While the animated series focused on the Powerpuff Girls as kids, The CW’s live-action series will show Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup as adults with 20-something hangups left over from their intense childhoods. Going through a mid-life crisis, Faison’s Professor Utonium will have a lot on his plate, including dealing with his daughters.

The CW’s take on the Powerpuff Girls is vastly different from the 1998 animated series. For one, The CW continues to live true to its mission to prioritize inclusivity and diversity by casting Faison in the role of a previously white male character. For another, the aging the characters up will give us a whole new perspective on them. It’s safe to assume we’re going to see a lot of butt-kicking coupled with exploration of real-life issues.

It looks like preparations are underway for filming the pilot as per Bennet’s recent Instagram post revealing her new red hair. Can’t play Blossom without it.

Raise your hand if you are so here for this. *RAISING MY HAND REALLY HIGH RIGHT NOW*!
