Who doesn’t wonder what would have happened if things turned out differently in this or that Marvel movie? The animated series What If…? will answer some of those questions, showing us what the MCU would be like if the storylines went another way.
- One of the best things about What If…? is that many of the original actors are returning to voice their characters. If someone like, say, Robert Downey Jr. wanted to come back and play Iron Man again, What If…? makes it possible. Hollywood stars seem to enjoy lending their voices to animated projects because they can be recorded close to home, making them easy to work into busy schedules.
- Stories from across the MCU are open for reinterpretation, before and after the Blip. That one moment was so pivotal for MCU characters…but what if it didn’t happen? What if it had been the original Avengers who disappeared? What if Thanos was an Avenger? You never know what kind of stories could spin out of one little change.
- One of the stories teased is about what would happen if Peggy Carter was turned into a super soldier instead of Steve Rogers. Exploring these stories, both in the past and the present, is tantalizing, and through the power of animation it’s entirely possible to tell a wild, effects-heavy story with ease.
