Captain America has swiftly turned from being one of the most beloved characters in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe to one of the most loathed. The shield and title may be the same, but the man now behind them, John Walker (Wyatt Russell), isn’t doing a great job of living up to the legacy of predecessor Steve Rogers. A new trailer for the final two episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier teases a big confrontation.

In the remaining episodes, Sam (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky (Sebastian Stan) will inevitably face off against the new Cap. Walker has injected himself with the elusive super-soldier serum, which means he’s now incredibly strong and fast in addition to being angry and possibly bloodthirsty. This “hero” has officially disgraced himself as Captain America, brutally beating his victim to death with the shield while the whole world watches.

The teaser gives us a glimpse of the repercussions of Walker’s actions. The iconic shield is blood-stained, and Sam and Bucky appear ready to take him down. “You don’t wanna do this,” Walker tells them. “Yeah, we do,” Bucky replies.

If and when they remove Walker of his responsibilities, one huge question remains: Who will take the mantle and carry the shield as the new new Captain America? So far, there’s been a lot of tension between Sam and Bucky on the subject. Previously, Sam refused to continue Roger’s legacy, despite Bucky pushing him to take the opportunity. These final two episodes will hopefully give us a definitive answer.

Of course, the series offers plenty more questions besides how the ongoing Cap issue will be resolved. We still don’t know who the mysterious Power Broker is, but I’m sure we’ll be able to put a face to the name soon enough, or perhaps we’ve already seen who it is…

What Marvel hero will cameo in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier?

When WandaVision aired earlier this year, it felt as if every Marvel character in existence was tipped to make a cameo in the final moments. In reality, nobody too big showed up. In fact, the finale even disappointed many by making Evan Peters (Quicksilver in the X-Men franchise) some random guy named Ralph Bohner, quashing hopes of a gigantic crossover.

As for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, rumors are still around. For instance, one popular theory has it that we could see King T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) make a cameo, suggesting he might have been involved in filming before he sadly passed away last year. This theory was quickly and comprehensively shut down.

“No. I can say. That is not going to happen,” producer Nate Moore confirmed during an interview with Vanity Fair. “I would be honest if it was. Chad’s passing is a whole life thing, and I loved the guy as much as the character. I think we have to be very careful and thoughtful about when he appears, because he meant so much to a lot of people as much as he meant to us.”

That does not mean nobody will show up. Marvel Studios have a host of characters to choose from if they want one to make an appearance. Or they could leave the cameos for another season, if it happens. For his part, Sebastian Stan remains unsure whether the show will get renewed. “As per usual, I don’t quite know what the next step is,” he told Collider. “We never really do. Maybe some people do, maybe Downey used to know, I don’t know.”

All questions will (hopefully) be answered in the final two episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. You can catch them Fridays on Disney+!
