Even when the main series isn’t airing new episodes, Doctor Who is always buzzing. The fans did a great job of energizing the community during the pandemic lockdown, and Big Finish is still putting out audio adventures starring the voices of past Doctors.

During the latest episode of the Big Finish podcast, boss Nicholas Briggs (also the voice of the Daleks) talked about a potential multi-Doctor story in the future starring Christopher Eccleston,  who played the Ninth Doctor back in 2005, kicking off the revival of the franchise. He’s already returned to the role of the Ninth Doctor for the first time in over a decade for a new series of solo Big Finish audio adventures. Might he team up with other Doctors on these adventures in the future? What fan wouldn’t want to see the Ninth and Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) go on a trip together, for example?

Briggs seems open to the idea, but offers lots of caveats:

"Why is it that people want Doctors to get together? I mean we do, we all do, we want Doctors to get together. We do like Doctors to get together, don’t we? But it’s always very difficult to do it and we’ve done it quite a lot. I would never rule it out, but I don’t think it would be Chris’ number one priority – although I’m sure he’d be on board for something like that. And it’s not our number one priority at the moment, we want to focus on giving lots of great stories to the Ninth Doctor which are about the Ninth Doctor. I think meeting other Doctors, that’s a whole different thing – but I think it would be wonderful and fingers crossed maybe one day we could do it!"

He didn’t say no, but it’s interesting that he sounded surprised at first that Doctor Who fans would want Doctors to come together. It’s always fun to see that happen, but of course, it’s easier said than done. So while we won’t be getting that multi-Doctor story anytime soon, we can catch Eccleston reprising his role in “The Ninth Doctor Adventures: Ravagers,” which will mark the first time Eccleston has played the character in well over a decade.

“The Ninth Doctor Adventures: Ravagers” has Eccleston’s Doctor face off with the Cybermen, something the Ninth Doctor never got to do. The volumes will be released by Big Finish in May 2021 and then February 2022 and will be available as physical releases or digital downloads through their site. Oh, how nice it’ll be to have Eccleston back!

Matt Smith makes off with the sonic screwdriver

And while we’re talking all about the Doctors, Matt Smith recently gave an interview to Port Magazine, where he revealed what prop he took from his time as the Eleventh Doctor. “I’ve got the sonic screwdriver,” he said. “They gave me a little box painted like the TARDIS and my costumes.”

It doesn’t come as a shock that he got to keep the handy-dandy sonic screwdriver, which is the Doctor’s all-encompassing tool he can use to break into places, learn about alien races, and even as a weapon from time to time.

The best Doctor Who memento, hands down!
