Ciarán Hinds (Mance Rayder) as Steppenwolf in Justice League

Yep, underneath all those special effects is the guy who led the wildings on Game of Thrones. Hard to believe, isn’t it?

It’s not easy to bring personality and purpose to a character when you’re covered in that any special effects, but Ciarán Hinds pulls it off, making his Steppenwolf intimidating and formidable. He’s even better in the Snyder Cut of Justice League, where he’s able to further explore Steppenwolf’s goals and motivations.

Hinds also played Aberforth Dumbledore in the later Harry Potter films, but booking the big bad in the DCEU’s first big crossover installment is a pretty big achievement.

Finn Jones (Loras Tyrell) as Danny Rand in Iron Fist

Iron Fist wasn’t the best of the Netflix-produced Marvel shows, but Finn Jones — the Knight of Flowers himself — still shone in the title role, playing lead character Danny Rand with a perfect blend of cockiness, charisma and joy. These shows have been discontinued by Disney so we probably won’t see him in the part again, but he made a good show of it.
