DC’s Legends of Tomorrow gets crazy, weird, and a bit odd in the second episode of its sixth season. Is it too much or just right?

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow has never been the type of show to shy away from doing the craziest thing it can take of. In fact, this is precisely why the series has quickly become a fan favorite and continues to remain so. Amidst all the DCTV shows currently on The CW, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is by far the wackiest one out there, and the most entertaining.

With that in mind, this week’s episode, “Meat: The Legends,” was interesting to say the least. Aliens seem to be the central focus of the season, with last week’s revelation that Gary (Adam Tsekhman) was an alien all this time kicking things off.

Gary and Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) are off traversing an alien planet in this episode while the rest of the Legends travel to 1950s San Bernandino to track down an extraterrestrial. Their goal remains to find Sara, who was mysteriously abducted in the season 5 finale. They sort of got closer to their goal this week but take a very weird route to get there. But hey, we’re here for it, from the alien secret sauce to the extraterrestrial Amelia Earhart (Kirsten Robek). While other shows totally can’t pull that sort of thing off, this series basks in the weird glory of it all.

Legends of Tomorrow heads to San Bernandino

Zari (Tala Ashe), Ava (Jes Macallan), Behrad (Shayan Sobhian), Spooner (Lisseth Chavez), Nate (Nick Zano), Mick (Dominic Purcell) and Constantine (Matt Ryan) all head back in time to the 1950s to find a solution to the alien dilemma. Things are chaotic from the get-go as the Legends find themselves at a fast-food restaurant reminiscent of In-N-Out Burger. In reality, they find that the alien is actually a secret sauce used by the restaurant that turns people into vicious versions of themselves craving all the meat they can find.

It’s all a bit weird, even for Legends of Tomorrow, but it’s nothing we haven’t seen before. In fact, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer had an episode called “Doublemeat Palace” which this episode seems to have been inspired by.

As this show often does, it takes things to their logical extreme, and beyond. While looking into this alien secret sauce, the Legends come across an alien moth that’s basically a version of Mothra, from the Godzilla movies. As aliens are essentially running rampant in San Bernandino, the Legends rely heavily on Spooner, the newest addition to the team.

Having Spooner work alongside Ava is the perfect way to assimilate her into the group. And the alien moth plot turned Spooner into someone they can trust.

Sara and Gary meet Amelia Earhart

Sara and Gary find themselves on a pink-hued planet where they run into Amelia Earhart, which is as strange as it sounds. It ends up the long-lost pilot is an alien herself, and ends up attacking Sara. Will Sara turn into an alien now? It’s Legends of Tomorrow, so anything can happen.

Behrad and Zari’s totems

It was a pleasant surprise to see the original Zari in this episode. The new Zari was a bit difficult to get used to, but with time she’s grown on me and has truly become a part of the Legends family.

I loved that she spoke up for herself and asked Behrad to let her in on the family powers. And with the original Zari’s help, she succeeded! Now both Behrad and Zari have a piece of the totem, which can only make Legends more entertaining to watch.

Legends of Tomorrow is only two episodes into its new season, but it’s already been a pretty hilarious journey. I believe that we’ll spend a lot of time on the Legends trying to find Sara. And on the flip side, we’ll see a lot of Sara trying to get back to them, but her new alien wound may make things much more difficult. And I love that the series is continuing to flesh out its secondary characters. We’re even getting a Disney-style animated episode focused on Astra (Olivia Swann) this season. So yes, we’ll be seeing a whole lot more of all the characters in season 6, and I can’t wait for it!

Until next week, folks!
