Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) is fighting to get Poison Ivy into the DCEU
By Ashley Hurst
Since Margot Robbie made her debut as Harley Quinn in the DCEU back in 2016, she’s become one of the most beloved characters in the entire franchise. Even though David Ayer’s Suicide Squad was largely panned as a sub-par mess, most fans agreed that Robbie’s amazing portrayal of Quinn stood out. As a result, Robbie later starred in Harley’s first solo movie, Birds of Prey, as well as being in James Gunn’s upcoming The Suicide Squad.
Because of the huge success of Harley Quinn in the DCEU, fans are wondering when her partner Poison Ivy will get a chance to shine on the big screen. We haven’t heard anything yet, but Margot Robbie is certainly fighting for it to happen!
Pamela Isley, aka Poison Ivy, has seen a lot of success in the animated side of the DC universe, but when it comes to live-action movies, things are pretty grim. Uma Thurman portrayed her in Batman & Robin (1997) and while her performance wasn’t awful, the movie was. In fact, it regularly ranks high in lists for the worst superhero movies of all time — even George Clooney, who played Batman, hates it.
Margot Robbie wants to see Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy’s relationship on the big screen
But if Margot Robbie has her way, the plant-loving Batman villain will have her day. “Trust me, I chew their ear off about it all the time,” she told Den of Geek, talking about the studio execs. “They must be sick of hearing it, but I’m like, ‘Poison Ivy, Poison Ivy. Come on, let’s do it.’ I’m very keen to see a Harley-Poison Ivy relationship on screen. It’d be so fun. So I’ll keep pestering them. Don’t worry.”
Given the romance between Quinn and Ivy throughout both the comics and animated series, it sounds like a no-brainer to bring that into the DCEU. This isn’t the first time Robbie has expressed her interest in this. Speaking to PrideSource in 2018, she outlined why she believes it’s a great idea:
"If you read the comics you know that Poison Ivy and Harley have an intimate relationship…In some comics they convey it as a friendship; in other comics you can see that they’re actually sexually involved as a couple. I’ve been trying to—I would love to have Poison Ivy thrown into the universe, because the Harley and Poison Ivy relationship is one of my favorite aspects of the comics, so I’m looking to explore that on screen."
Unfortunately, we’re still waiting on seeing it happen. If we do see Harley and Ivy together onscreen in the future, we all know who to thank!
Speaking of Poison Ivy maybe one day joining the DC universe, who should be cast? Any ideas?
