Sebastian Stan wants fans to know that he’s not planning on leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe anytime soon. Speaking on the Just for Variety podcast, Stan said that he’s very happy working with Marvel but doesn’t know how long the ride will last.

“It’s not up to me,” Stan said. “I don’t make these decisions. As long as they’ll keep calling, I’m there. I don’t know. I get old, too. Like everyone else in the world, I AGE! So I don’t know what that means. Maybe it doesn’t mean anything! I have no idea. I’m just going for the ride.”

Of course, this is coming right off Bucky Barnes getting a title role in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. That show left plenty of doors open for the Winter Soldier, but will he go through them?

Sebastian Stan looks ahead after a decade as the Winter Soldier

It’s hard to believe that 10 years have passed since Stan first appeared as Bucky Barnes in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. The beloved bestie to Steve Rogers looked like he’d met his doom until he showed up again in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Stan’s recent appearance in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier demonstrates that Bucky’s future is still bright, although Stan rightfully acknowledges that his time in the MCU could be limited as the actor gets older. Dave Bautista recently talked about stepping away from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise after the third movie because he’ll be 54 and bringing Drax to life would be a bit tougher.

That said, Stan didn’t say no when asked if he could see playing Bucky into his ’80s. “May I be so lucky. It’s really quite wild, it really is. A lot of people on TV, there are shows that have gone on for so many seasons, Friends, I mean, there’s a lot of where… you get to go and play a character for such a long period of time. It’s like gaining a family member. You gain, like, a brother or something in this case for me. You get to see this character again and again, and then you’re always growing up, and they’re sort of growing up with you in a weird way.”

Aging aside, it’s important to note that Stan is enthusiastic about staying in the MCU. That’s key, because many actors get tired of roles in big franchises and want to break free as quickly as possible. Stan’s dedication to the role and to the MCU says a lot about how much he’s enjoying his time in this universe, which is a good thing for fans who are eager to see more of Stan and Bucky Barnes in the future.
