Season 5, Episode 13: “A Little Harmless Stalking”

This Linda-centric episode is a reminder of the lengths a mother will go for her child, even when she never knew that child to begin with.

Earlier in season 5, Linda reveals that she had a baby that she put up for adoption. She never knew anything about her daughter until she started looking into her life, discovering that she’s a real estate agent. When her daughter Adriana is implicated in a murder, Linda steps in and confesses to the crime even though it’s obvious that she had nothing to do with it.

Thus begins a journey of discovery for Linda as she tries to gain insight into her daughter’s life from her position as an outsider.

While Linda helps Lucifer and Chloe find clues to prove that Adriana is innocent, Amenadiel is busy contemplating what it would be like to take over for his father in light of God’s retirement. He takes time to listen to Ella, who has been struggling lately, and Amenadiel is able to offer her some reassurance that makes her feel better. It also gives him some satisfaction knowing that he can do God’s work if need be.

Maze, who will fight anyone who thinks of hurting her pal Linda, is out searching for clues of her own. When Eve shows up as a bounty hunter on the trail, Maze’s world is thrown upside down. When Eve gets hurt, Maze offers her the immortality ring that belonged to her mother, but Eve won’t have it. She’s happy being mortal and that means accepting the risks – including her eventual death. Maze can’t accept it, and she pushes Eve away because she can’t bear the thought of losing her.

Once she has been cleared of the murder, Linda’s daughter puts the pieces together and shows up at Linda’s house. She meets Charlie, and Linda is given a chance to be herself around her daughter.

At the end of the episode, Amenadiel confesses to Lucifer that he’s not willing to give up his life to become God.

“A Little Harmless Stalking” is a special episode because it celebrates the bond a parent shares with a child, which ties into the larger theme of the season as Lucifer and Amenadiel cope with their feelings toward their father. Rachael Harris brings so much warmth to Linda, but seeing her try to convince her friends that she’s a killer is also priceless. (Let’s face it, she’s Linda…)
