Shadow and Bone veteran Daisy Head (Genya Safin) will star alongside Chris Pine in the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie. The fantasy renaissance continues.
In a post-Game of Thrones world where fantasy dramas are all the rage, it was always only a matter of time before someone tried making a movie or TV series out of popular tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. It’s been attempted before, but not when there was this much momentum behind fantasy stuff. With the likes of Chris Pine and Hugh Grant in Paramount’s new swing, this movie may break through.
And the movie continues to staff up. Screen Rant reports that Daisy Head, who recently played Genya Safin in Netflix’s adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone series, has come aboard the picture as well.
We don’t know who Head is playing yet, but let’s see if we can spot her in this official synopsis:
"An ex-Harper turned thief escapes from prison with his partner, a female barbarian, and reunites with a no-talent wizard and a druid new to their team in an effort to rob the cheating conman who stole all their loot from the heist that landed them behind bars, and used it to install himself as the Lord of Neverwinter. Only the traitor is allied with a powerful Red Wizard who has something far more sinister in store."
I’m guessing Grant will play the conman, since we know he’s playing the villain, and Pine the “ex-Harper turned thief,” which is a fun career path. It looks like this movie is taking inspiration from a traditional D&D campaign where a group of mismatched adventures goes off on a quest. So Head could be the no-talent wizard, the druid, the barbarian, the Red Wizard, or whoever else.
The Dungeons & Dragons movie also stars Michelle Rodriguez and Bridgerton alum Regé-Jean Page. It’ll be out on March 3, 2023.
