Doctor Who opened up its immersive theatrical experience, Time Fracture, in London back in May. The event takes fans through the scientifically wacky world of Doctor Who in a theatrical setting.

As if that weren’t exciting enough, the official Doctor Who Twitter account has announced that Alex Kingston, aka River Song, has recorded an appearance. I don’t know about all of you, but I am stoked about this reveal.

For years, the character of River Song has been an integral part of the franchise. A firm fan favorite, she has a deep history with the Doctor, having been married to both the eleventh (Matt Smith) and twelfth (Peter Capaldi) Doctors in addition to being the child of Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill), who were companions to the eleventh Doctor. It would have been an utter shame if Kingston wasn’t involved in some way in this event, and I’m so glad they decided to bring her in!

Missing from the action, however, is John Barrowman’s Captain Jack Harkness. Barrowman was removed from the event following renewed attention on allegations that he repeatedly exposed himself on set. About a month or so ago, the Time Fracture producers disclosed that they would be coming up with a new storyline that would involve the world of Torchwood sans Captain Harkness.

The event started back in May and is currently booking tickets through April 2022. If you’re hoping to attend at some point between now and then, then head to the official website. Sigh, if only London wasn’t across the pond for me!

Doctor Who: Time Fracture takes place in 1940, where “a weapon of unknown origin destroys a small corner of Mayfair, and simultaneously opens a rift in space and time.” It will be up to the audience, aka the UNIT recruits, to help UNIT deal with the problem.

Writer-director Daniel Dingsdale spoke to Radio Times about the event, which is for everyone; you don’t need to be well-versed in the world of Doctor Who in order to enjoy it. “It’s got a solid beginning, middle and end so you can walk in off the street and just go on this adventure.”

So if you’re a non-Whovian and are able to attend the event, I highly recommend it. And for those of you who are Whovians, Dingsdale promises that “everything that is hidden somewhere it is nodding to or paying homage to the last 60 years nearly of Whovian canon. So if you are a Whovian, you’re gonna have a wonderful night.”
