WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the first two of Marvel’s Disney+ series, premiered new episodes of Wednesdays. But with Loki, they switched to Wednesdays, and it paid off, with the series having the most-watched premiere on Disney+ yet.

And now, everything is moving over. According to The Hollywood Reporter, effective July, Disney+ will begin premiering shows on Wednesdays, starting off with the Monsters, Inc. spin-off Monsters at Work. (Original movies will still premiere on Fridays.)

Of course, we can question whether Disney has its logic straight here. Did people just drop everything in the middle of the week to watch Loki because it premiered on Wednesday…or because it’s Loki and it’s great? Once Disney starts rolling out more series, we’ll have a better idea.

Disney+ original series schedule

Here are the new premiere dates for several upcoming Disney+ shows:

Moving the premieres to these shows to Wednesdays means Disney+ won’t have to compete as feverishly with the likes of Netflix. For quite some time now, Friday have been the go-to day to launch shows and movies for streaming services. But as time has passed, they’ve caught on that switching up the days might benefit viewership and lessen the competition. Even Netflix has occasionally experimented with releasing things on different days of the week, along with Paramount+, Hulu, HBO Max and Peacock.

With the growing number of streaming services, it’s crucial for all of them to figure out how to stand apart from the others. There’s only so much you can do, but it looks like Disney+ may have figured out what works best for them.

Tune in on July 2 when Monsters at Work premieres to find out if Wednesdays truly are the magical day!
