The question of whether Loki is more powerful than Thor is a bit like asking whether the chicken came before the egg. It’s not easy to answer because Thor and Loki have their own strengths and weaknesses. The new Disney+ series Loki gives fans a chance to see just how powerful the God of Mischief is.
It would be difficult to put Loki and Thor’s powers to the test in a side-by-side competition. Each know what the other is capable of, and so it wouldn’t be a “fair” measurement.
However, in looking at their individual strengths and weaknesses, it’s possible to get a general sense of which one of Odin’s sons is more powerful.
Loki might be slightly more powerful than Thor, or vice versa
As the God of Thunder, Thor possesses great physical strength, he can wield his powerful hammer and he can call upon the thunder to do his bidding.
Like his adopted mother Freyda, Loki’s power is in his magic. The Trickster God’s shapeshifting ability is unparalleled and has helped him escape many dangerous situations.
Loki and Thor are both gods and have immense godly powers that make them somewhat impervious to harm, though they can be beaten; they can lose eyes (Thor) and they can die (Loki).
If the metric is physical strength, then Thor is easily the winner. If the metric is the ability to manipulate a situation, then no one compares to Loki.
What this means is that there is no clear answer to the question of who is more powerful. Loki is probably better suited to get through an adventure in the multiverse — like he’s doing now in Loki on Disney+ — than his brother, while Thor is better fighting the likes of Thanos in hand to hand combat.
Odin’s sons are both very powerful in their own right, but when it comes to which son is more powerful, well, there’s no easy answer.
