Helen Mirren stuns as the villain Hespera on the set of Shazam! Fury of the Gods

When you need someone to take down an all-powerful hero like Shazam, accept no substitutes and call Dame Helen Mirren. She’ll be playing Hespera, the daughter of Atlas, in the upcoming sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

We don’t know exactly what Hespera’s role will be in the movie, since there’s no clear analog for Hespera in the comics. But we know that Mirren can pull off an imperious role, and new behind-the-scenes shots released on Just Jared reveal that she can look the part too. Decked out in a black-and-gold armored chest plate with a wrought iron head piece and long silvery hair, she looks ready to take on the world, and any superheroes in it who think to question her supremacy. The photos also show Zachary Levi back in costume as the title character, showing off the altered suit teased a few weeks back.

In addition to Mirren, Lucy Liu is playing Hespera’s sister Kalyspo. Shazam will have a whole suite of gods to face off with in this sequel, and they are furious.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods release date

So filming is well underway on Shazam! Fury of the Gods, but don’t expect it to be out for while. The DC film is scheduled to hit theaters until June 2, 2023.
