17. The Dothraki all die…but then they’re okay
In “The Long Night” — the episode where the living fight the dead — we see Daenerys’ Dothraki cavalry annihilated in the battle against the White Walkers. They’re the first wave of fighters sent against the White Walkers, their arakhs lit on fire by Melisandre. Then we see all the fires die out, along with the Dothraki’s battle cries. Only a handful of warriors came back from the utter darkness. They’re gone.
Except no? Because when Dany’s army storms King’s Landing in the back half of the season, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of Dothraki. They are very much alive and kicking; they invade the city, fight in the streets, and then loudly celebrate Daenerys’s victory when she gives her big speech outside the ruined Red Keep.
Did the few surviving Dothraki reproduce really really fast? Were they playing a really good game of hide and seek? Did the writers just forget they killed them all off? Experts differ.
