Fear The Walking Dead showrunner Ian Goldberg teased a potentially major crossover during a TWDUniverse live stream on Twitch. In Season 5 of FTWD, it was hinted that Daniel Salazar (Rubén Blades) may have crossed paths with The Walking Dead’s Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz) at some point. Given that Fear is based in Texas and Abraham was from Houston, it’s very possible that could have happened.

In the fourth episode of Season 5, “Skidmark,” Daniel offered Victor Strand (Colman Domingo) a warehouse where he and his group of survivors could stay. He gave them dibs on anything in the well-stocked warehouse except for one item: a friend’s cigar. Apparently he was saving it for “when things get better.”

During the live stream, Goldberg shared that one of his “favorite [Easter eggs] actually goes back to Season 5.” He pointed out that “if you look at the brand of that cigar, it may be the exact same brand of cigar that an iconic character from The Walking Dead smoked.”

Apparently, he’s hinting that it’s the very same Dona Maria brand of cigar that Abraham was seen smoking back in The Walking Dead episode “Always Accountable” from season 6. Of course, Goldberg didn’t confirm that this was the case, but did heavily imply it and left it up to fans to “extrapolate.”

This is the beauty of The Walking Dead universe. These character and story crossovers are the heart and soul of the franchise, and it’s basically what head honcho Scott M. Gimple is building its future around. Between the movies (is the Rick Grimes movie still happening?) and the collection of current and future shows, there is a lot to explore and look forward to. Hopefully they do it right.

Fear The Walking Dead crossover with Abraham Ford

Season 5 wasn’t the first time Abraham was referenced in the series. Back in the season 4 episode “No One’s Gone,” one of Althea’s interview tapes was labeled “Abe/Doctor,” likely a reference to Abraham and his then-travel buddy, “Doctor” Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt). Ooh, could we get Eugene in on this crossover action!?

It may very well be that we could see the Daniel and Abraham crossover in Tales of the Walking Dead, the anthology spinoff series that Gimple is working on. That show will tell new stories about characters who have died, so it would be the perfect way to rope Abraham in.

Back in 2019, Cudlitz hinted that Abraham may return to The Walking Dead universe while appearing on Strahan and Sara. He alluded to developing projects that will “go back in time, go forward in time” and “pair up characters that weren’t necessarily paired up in the graphic novels.”

Given all these really obvious hints and clues from the last two years, I’m going to go ahead and assume that we will see Cudlitz return to this world at some point in time. It only makes sense given how beloved Abraham was and the fact that Cudlitz has returned on a number of occasions to direct episodes of both The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead.

Here’s hoping this crossover does indeed happen!

The Walking Dead: World Beyond star wants a Negan crossover

Speaking of potential Walking Dead crossovers, World Beyond star Aliyah Royale (Isis Bennett) recently told CBR who she’d like to act with. “I think [Negan is] a badass,” she said, simply and accurately.

"And when watching this show, he was always the character that was just most interesting to me. I always find it interesting when someone could be given the same options as us and choose the evil one or the one that doesn’t save common good. Yeah, I just always find those kinds of characters interesting, the villain of the story as opposed to the hero. So it’d be cool to work with someone who lives in that kind of mindset. You know, we’ll see what happens, because I think her and Negan would be pretty cool."

In the world of The Walking Dead, anything is possible.

Next. The first trailer for Succession season 3 looks amazing. dark
