The new Disney+ series Loki has been a treasure trove of Easter eggs and cameo appearances. While some “cameos” came in the form of old footage, from movies like The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World and Avengers: Infinity War, there have been some surprise appearances, like Jaime Alexander turning up as Lady Sif. But it just so happens that Episode 5, “Journey Into Mystery,” featured a very special cameo from Chris Hemsworth himself.

While Loki was learning more about this strange new place full of Lokis — Planet Loki, if you will — there was a brief, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment when we see a frog jumping inside a glass jar. This is Frog Thor, a real character from Marvel Comics. You can even hear Thor’s voice grumbling and yelling as he tries to escape his bell jar prison.

While there is no actual “dialogue” in the brief scene, Loki director Kate Herron confirmed in an interview with For All Nerds that Hemsworth did indeed contribute. “We recorded Chris Hemsworth for that, by the way,” Herron said. “We recorded him for that. His voice going ‘Ahhh!’ That’s a whole new recording.”

Chris Hemsworth makes cameo appearance in Loki

The timing of Hemsworth’s cameo couldn’t be more perfect, as Loki Episode 5 aired the same week that Marvel dropped the first trailer for their upcoming animated series What If…? Hemsworth, along with many other members of the Marvel family, recorded dialogue for the new series, so it’s possible Herron’s team got him to add a few extra grunts and yelps for their project while he was working on What If…?

That’s one of the great things about animation: Actors can record their voices from home if need be, which opens up a whole world of possibilities.

With one episode left in the freshman season of Loki, time will tell if there will be other cameos. And even if we don’t get some surprise appearances in Episode 6, perhaps Disney+ will give us a second season, and and who knows who might show up there?
