It feels like the Harry Potter films came out just yesterday, but November marks the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone bowing in theaters. Given the movies’ impact on pop culture, fans might be expecting a big extravaganza in honor of the milestone. Unfortunately, that’s unlikely to include a cast reunion.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight about the upcoming third season of Miracle Workers, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe admitted he hasn’t heard much in the way of plans for the 20th anniversary. He probably won’t be available even if there is some type of reunion, since he’ll be traveling and filming other projects:

"I’m in the Dominican Republic at the moment filming and then I’m going to be busy, kind of working on bits and pieces until the end of the year. So yeah, I don’t know. I’m sure there will be some sort of celebration but I don’t know if we will be getting together or anything. I’m sorry if that’s a bit of a disappointment to anyone."

Although it would be nice to see the Harry Potter stars together again, it makes sense that they’re busy working on other things. The actors who played Harry and his friends are well into adulthood at this point, and most of them have moved on from their childhood roles.

The cast is surprised the Harry Potter films are still so popular

Perhaps it’s because the Harry Potter cast has moved on from the series that they’re surprised it’s still so popular. Although the books and films may not be on Radcliffe’s radar as much, the fanbase remains active. In fact, some fans even reenact scenes from the films on TikTok. Radcliffe hasn’t watched any of them, but he’s amused by the idea, and impressed that anyone would try to reenact the chess moment from the end of the first film. “That’s a really hard one to reenact,” Radcliffe said. “That’s like one of the craziest sets we had! That’s great … I will try and see some of them then. That’s good.”

Tom Felton, who plays Draco Malfoy, the rival to Radcliffe’s character, is a bit more active in the fandom. (In fact, he creates some Harry Potter TikToks himself.) However, even he is taken aback by how relevant the movies remain, telling People:

"We’re all sort of a bit flabbergasted that it’s even more popular. We’re all a bit surprised by that. We’re certainly excited, and made to feel old when we realize that it was 20 years ago that we made the first film."

That’s a sentiment most fans can probably relate to as well.

It’s nice to see the fanbase thriving, even as most of the people involved with the films move on. It’s a testament to the story’s impact that it’s still being talked about 20 years later.
