Jamie Lee Curtis originally stepped out as Laurie Strode in 1978’s Halloween, which found her on the run from the terrifying, unstoppable Michael Myers. That movie cast a long shadow over the next several decades of film; it basically invented the slasher genre, giving rise to Friday the 13thScream and every other movie where a bunch of teens run from a maniac with a knife (or chainsaw, or hook, or whatever).

The Halloween movies themselves have been rebooted and retconned several times, with the latest being a new trilogy of films from David Gordon Green and Danny McBride. The first movie, simply called Halloween, came out in 2018 and picked up with Laurie decades after her initial run-in with Michael, and pretty much ignoring the sequels that came out since. The sequel, Halloween Kills, is on tap for later this year, with Halloween Ends completing the trilogy in 2022.

Halloween Ends sounds like a pretty definitive title, but the franchise has been there before. Still, Curtis thinks that will be the final time she plays Laurie. “I would say, given what I know about the next movie, I think it will be the last time that I will play [Laurie Strode],” she told Total Film.

Does Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) die in Halloween Ends?

So does that mean Laurie dies? Because again, she’s been there before. In Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers, we learn that Laurie died following the events of Halloween 2. That was retconned for Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later, where Laurie returned alive and well…but then she died again in Halloween: Resurrection. This franchise has a long and complicated history.

But this time is different. “And I’m not saying something like, ‘Oh, because I die!’ It’s nothing to do with that,” Curtis said. “I’m talking about emotionally what they have constructed. I think it will be a spectacular way to end this trilogy.”

Until Halloween Ends comes out, we’ll have to take her word for it. In the meantime, Halloween Kills releases in theaters on October 15 of this year.
