Netflix is releasing advance photos from the sixth and final season of Lucifer, and they are laden with SPOILERS. Read no further if you wish to remain pure.

Still here? Alright, let’s get filthy.

The fifth season of Lucifer ended with a bang as Dan Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro) was gunned down by French mercenaries, apparently ending up in hell. This influenced Lucifer’s (Tom Ellis) decision to take over his father’s role as God and Amenadiel’s (D.B. Woodside) choice to join the LAPD.

But was Dan really off the show? The short answer is no, and Espinoza hasn’t made a secret of that. “ immediately approached me with, ‘Hey, it’s not the end, and it doesn’t have to be for you either, because we know how to do this in a respectful way that is not going to lower the quality of storytelling that we’ve already established in the beginning,’” he said in a recent interview. “And of course, I wanted to be there till the very end. We started this process in Vancouver, and we’re ending in L.A., and I want to be part of the whole thing. And luckily, they wanted me to be part of it as well. So we figured out a pretty interesting way to bring him back in some capacity.”

So Dan was always going to come back. The question is how. Let’s see if this newly released image from season 6 clears anything:

Nope, not really. We have Amenadiel in uniform talking to someone in his capacity as a police office, and Dan sitting nearby. Is he back on Earth and acting as Amenadiel’s mentor? Is he only there in spirit? Is it something else? The mystery deepens.

There are also a couple of other photos from season 6 that aren’t quite as unexpected:
