Luke Skywalker once proclaimed that “no one’s ever really gone,” and that’s largely been the case for the Star Wars franchise. If Emperor Palpatine could find his way back to the series, just about anyone can — apparently, including Felicity Jones’ Rogue One character, Jyn Erso.

If you’re thinking — and spoiler warning for those who haven’t seen Rogue One yet — “wait a minute, didn’t she die at the end,” yes, that’s overwhelmingly the consensus.

However, when HeyUGuys asked if Jones would ever consider returning to the role, she told them, “Never shut the door on Jyn Erso, never!”

Given Jyn’s fearless personality and ability to weasel her way out of things, it’s a fair point. According to Jones, some fans believe her fate was left up for interpretation at the end of Rogue One, a fact that Star Wars could eventually use to justify a reappearance. She explained:

"“I was having this conversation with someone the other day, and I was trying to say, ‘It’s a bit of a nuclear fallout at the end of the film. And they were like, ‘No, it didn’t feel like that, it doesn’t feel like they die.’ And I was like, ‘Well, there you go. There’s a chance of a comeback.'”"

Of course, Lucasfilm wouldn’t necessarily need to retcon Jyn’s ending in order to bring Jones back into the fold. Her former co-star, Diego Luna, is already working on

Rogue One prequel

for his character, Cassian Andor. If the

Disney Plus

show is a hit, it’s possible some of the film’s other heroes could receive more detailed backstories.

If that happens, there’s little doubt that Jyn would make a fascinating character study. Felicity Jones seems game to continue her story in some form, so perhaps she’ll get the chance.
