If there was ever a Harry Potter reboot, the franchise’s leading star, Daniel Radcliffe, has some ideas on who he would love to play. And no, he wouldn’t play Harry Potter again. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Radcliffe revealed that he’s always adored two particular characters from the movies. “I would probably want to go with like, Sirius [Black] or [Remus] Lupin,” he said. “Those were always the two characters that I was like, ‘They’re great. And also like, I’m obviously biased by my experience of filming those scenes, with those people, and they’re like some of my favourite memories.”

Originally played by David Thewlis and Gary Oldman, both of these characters served as guiding lights for Harry Potter during his turbulent time at Hogwarts. Lupin was his professor and Sirius his godfather. It comes as no surprise that these two characters are the ones Radcliffe would be the most interested in playing if the series were ever adapted for the screen once again.

As fun as it is to speculate like this, I’d prefer they not do a reboot and leave the original movies as they is. Bonnie Wright, who played Ginny Weasley, agrees. “I think it’s like a time capsule, and [if] you open it and it changes, everything feels kind of different.” Couldn’t have said it better myself!

Daniel Radcliffe’s thoughts on a Harry Potter reboot

While most of us Potterheads don’t want to see a reboot, Radcliffe feels it is inevitable, and he’s not wrong. We live in a world where anything and everything from the past is getting remade or rebooted, so something as successful and beloved as Harry Potter surely will join the trend at some point.

“I’m sure there will be some other version of it. I know I’m not the last Harry Potter I’m gonna see in my lifetime – we’ve already got a few more [in the stage play The Cursed Child]”, said Radcliffe.

And as far as how he feels about a TV spinoff? “I feel like there are other stories from that world that you could absolutely turn into a TV series, 100 percent. A series with the older generation [Marauders], that could be very cool.”

That actually would be cool. I’m fine with other stories in this universe, but I don’t want them messing with the original run. Don’t try to redo it, leave it as it is, and give us some new stuff along the lines of the Fantastic Beasts series or The Cursed Child stage play.

Whether or not we’ll see a series of any kind, reboot or new, we don’t know. Earlier this year, there was speculation that a Harry Potter show was in the works at HBO Max, but HBO content chief Casey Bloys debunked those rumors. “There are no deals in place,” he said. “There are no writers. There’s nothing. So I can’t add anything to what everybody’s already speculating about.”

Guess we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out!

dark. Next. Doctor Who’s Peter Capaldi wouldn’t join a multi-Doctor special
