Game of Thrones had a ton of characters, so many it kind of forgot to tell us what happened to a bunch of them. Let’s take a look back.
With all the news about the upcoming Game of Thrones spinoffs on the way, it seems like a great time to revisit the series that started it all. And while watching the first seasons of the show, I realized many of the characters introduced early on were abandoned toward the end. Do you remember all the hype surrounding the final season? We were going to get so much pay-off for all of the characters and storylines that have been built up since the first season. Right?
The last two seasons of the show made a point of sprinting towards the finish line, and many characters introduced earlier never made return appearances. I half-expected Daario Naharis or Meera Reed to show up at some point during the final episodes, especially during the Long Night. Or maybe we could have gotten to see what became of Quaithe or Salladhor Saan.
Let’s take a walk down memory lane and reflect on all of the characters Game of Thrones forgot.
Kinvara
Kinvara, a Red Priestess of R’hllor who wanted to help Daenerys in Meereen, was introduced in season 6, and fans were intrigued by this new character. Before and after, the only Red Priestess we had seen was Melisandre, so fans were excited to learn more about how her order worked. Kinvara had a strong introduction when she met with Tyrion and Varys; she intimidated the Spider with her knowledge of his past, but she was never seen again.
Kinvara could have led to us learning more about Varys, and provided another perspective on the religion of the Lord of the Light. Melisandre eventually filled the void that Kinvara left by briefly counseling Daenerys about meeting with Jon Snow in season 7, but it would have been interesting to see Kinvara stand alongside the Dragon Queen to the end, or converse with his fellow Red Priestess.
It also could have been fun to see Kinvara and other Red Priests and Priestesses take a more active role in fighting back the long night as Melisandre did, but ultimately, Kinvara was only brought on to spread the gospel of Daenerys Targaryen around Slaver’s Bay, later known as the Bay of Dragons.
