Michael Keaton: Putting the Batsuit back on for new movie “was shockingly normal”
By Ariba Bhuvad
Michael Keaton is reprising his role as Batman for The Flash movie, and I don’t think I’ve personally ever been more excited for anything in my life. As a kid, I was head over heels for Tim Burton’s take on Batman, and my fondest Bat-memories are of Michael Keaton wearing the iconic costume.
When it was announced that Keaton would return to play Batman again in The Flash, I couldn’t believe it. It’s still hard to contemplate that 1) The Flash movie is finally happening, and 2) Keaton is returning. But it’s feeling real now, as Keaton spoke with Collider about putting the Batsuit back on nearly 30 years later after 1992’s Batman Returns. According to Keaton, it was “weird and ironically easy, little bit emotional, and just a rush of memories.”
"And without giving anything away because I can’t, the first shot, not of the entire movie, but the introduction is so good that when we walked on and we start talking about couple shots and the angles, I went ‘Woah this is big this is great’, and I mean for me the imagery is just really great, and reminiscent of some degree of Tim Burton."
Tim Burton is the man who put Michael Keaton in the Batman suit back in 1989, and who has directed many iconic, fantastical movies since.
Michael Keaton is the Batman (again)
Keaton also spoke to Jake’s Takes about getting back into the Batman suit, because that’s really all anybody wants to hear from him of late. “It was shockingly normal, it was weird,” he said. “And like I went like ‘Oh, yeah that’s right,’ but also then you start to play the scenes; it was a lot of memories a lot of interesting sense memories.”
But what about beyond the suit? Has Keaton said the words, “I’m Batman” yet? Keaton had no response to that, but coyly pretended not to hear the question due to “connection issues.” Clever, clever man.
Micheal Keaton isn’t the only Batman who will be showing up in The Flash movie. Ben Affleck will also return as the Caped Crusader and act as a mentor to Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen/The Flash. We saw their bond in Justice League, so I’m excited to see more of that here.
The Flash movie has been in the making for quite awhile, and I’m so glad it’s finally happening in production. There’s going to be a lot of multiverse madness and I simply can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.
