The Mandalorian season 3 starts filming “within the next month”
If, like us, you’ve been wondering when Baby Yoda might grace your television screen once more, The Mandalorian star Carl Weathers has good news: the third season of the Star Wars series will start filming before the end of September.
The Disney+ show concluded its second season with several major developments last year. Not only did a digitally aged-down Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) show up to take Baby Yoda under his wing, but Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) unexpectedly found himself in possession of the Darksaber, which means he’s now the ruler of the planet Mandalore.
Needless to say, fans really want to know what happens next.
Unfortunately, between Lucasfilm focusing on other projects — most notably, The Book of Boba Fett — and the COVID-19 pandemic, things have been quiet on The Mandalorian front.
Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon) recently said that the new season would start filming “soon,” but Weathers offered a clearer timeline during a panel at Steel City Con.
Carl Weathers returns to the director’s chair for The Mandalorian season 3
Weathers plays Greef Karga, leader of the Bounty Hunters’ Guild, but he also does work behind the scenes of the show. In season 2, he directed “Chapter 12: The Siege.” According to the actor, he’s returning to the director’s chair for The Mandalorian season 3 as well.
During his appearance at Steel City Con (recorded by Fandom Spotlite), Weathers confirmed his involvement with the upcoming season. He also revealed when production starts:
"So now, we’re gonna start a new season of The Mandalorian within the next month. And I get to be in front of the camera again, and I get to direct again."
As for when we might see the new episodes, it won’t be until 2022. Fortunately, The Book of Boba Fett comes out this December and might tide us over — though a year is a long time to wait for another Baby Yoda appearance.
