HBO announces official Game of Thrones fan convention
By Dan Selcke
Well, here’s a nice surprise: HBO just unveiled that it will be hosting an official Game of Thrones fan convention this upcoming February in Las Vegas. The name? “Game of Thrones Official Fan Convention.” No ambiguity there.
This is opposed to the unofficial Game of Thrones fan conventions out there like Con of Thrones, which I’ve been to and enjoyed a few times. As you might expect, Con of Thrones hasn’t happened in a minute thanks to the pandemic. As for this new event, February of 2022 is far enough away that it might be practical to hold a convention again, but at one point that’s what we said about conventions in 2021, so you never know.
Will HBO show off House of the Dragon at the Game of Thrones Official Fan Convention?
It’s interesting that HBO is choosing to mount an official Game of Thrones convention now, years after the end of the show. To me, it can only mean one thing: they want to build hype for House of the Dragon, the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel show. Shooting on the first season should be done by next February, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they had a some cast members on hand to show off a trailer or something.
In any case, you can find out more about the Game of Thrones Official Fan Convention at its website.
