Charlie Cox (Daredevil) denies he’s in Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer

Eagle-eyed fans were trying to pick up on any clues from the first trailer of Spider-Man: No Way Home released last week. One thing they took notice of was a scene with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in a police interrogation room where a man slams his arms down on the table. We don’t see the guy’s face, but his outfit choice (and arms) looked like they could belong to Matt Murdock, the Marvel superhero played by Charlie Cox on Netflix’s Daredevil.

Had fans heard a rumor that Cox would appear as Murdock in No Way Home and seeing what they want to see? Maybe, but maybe not.

Anyway, the internet went into a frenzy that Charlie Cox was finally making his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Netflix cancelled Daredevil a few years back. This would be the perfect opportunity to incorporate Matt Murdock, attorney at law, into another Marvel storyline. In the comics, Murdock is the lawyer who helps defend Peter Parker after he is outed as Spider-Man. Spider-Man: No Way Home literally starts after Spider-Man’s secret identity has been revealed, so it all seems to line up.

Was Charlie Cox in the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer?

Sadly, no. Well, at least according to what Cox told Comicbook.com in a recent interview:

"I can promise you those are not my forearms. I’m not on social media, so I don’t have the same awareness about it as other people probably do. But obviously, I hear about it. My mom will tell me about it and my wife is aware of it … It makes me feel very grateful that people care that much. I also wouldn’t want to ruin something either way. It makes me a little anxious in that regard. It’s a difficult thing to talk about. All I’ll say is everyone, myself included, is just gonna have to wait and see what happens."

What do we think? Too cryptic? Not cryptic enough? Other?

Charlie Cox could be in Marvel’s She-Hulk

I personally don’t think Daredevil will be in Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, I do think Charlie Cox is in something, and that something is the upcoming Disney+ series She-Hulk, the titular character of that also being a lawyer with whom Matt Murdock interacts in the comics. Who knows, we may see both him and Tatiana Maslany’s She-Hulk in a courtroom together — now that would be an epic post-credits scene.

In any case, the upcoming Spider-Man movie already has so much going on and I don’t think Marvel has space to also stuff in Cox’s Daredevil. We’ve already got fan theories about Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men appearing, and we know that villains from past films will be returning. I’m shocked to hear myself say this, but it would be overkill to throw Daredevil into the mix too.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in a post-credits scene, though. Daredevil is a constant presence in Marvel comics and it would make sense to make him a larger part of the story.

Of course, even if Cox is in the upcoming Spider-Man movie, he would obviously be forbidden from saying so. His response was just enough to keep fans curious.

We’ll find out for sure when Spider-Man: No Way Home swings into theaters on December 17!
