The last time fans got a new episode of Doctor Who was the holiday special following season 12, which saw both Ryan and Graham ready to part ways with the Doctor. Now, it’s just down to Yaz and the thirteenth Doctor herself. But some new, promising adventures are in store with season 13.
This season of Doctor Who will be a short one, unfortunately; there’s only six episodes, not counting specials. That is mostly due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on filming. Still, the season will be an important one. It will feature fewer standalone episodes and more of an overarching story. In addition to that, Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm from Game of Thrones) has a recurring role. And actor/comedian John Bishop has joined the cast as the newest companion, Dan Lewis.
This season will also be Jodie Whittaker’s last. But as eager as we are to watch it, Doctor Who season 13 won’t be coming out in September 2021. We’ll have to wait just a little while longer for the premiere.
Doctor Who season 13 release date
Doctor Who season 13 does not have a release date yet, but the BBC says we can expect the series to come out this autumn. Seeing as filming wrapped up in August, a September release date would be too soon. But hopefully, that means we can get something by November or December before the holidays start.
Because this series is so short, the BBC has promised that we’ll be getting a bit more on top of the six-episode season. After that, there will be a total of three specials coming out in 2022. And that will likely mark the end of Jodie Whittaker’s run as the Doctor; we expect the final special to tell the story of how she transitions to becoming the next Doctor.
So summer is nearly over and fall is right around the corner. And that means we’ll be back to seeing the adventures of the Doctor and her companions in no time.
