Lucifer 604 — “Pin the Tail on the Daddy”
There aren’t many things that will stun Lucifer Morningstar into silence, but Rory’s revelation that she’s his daughter manages to do just that. When she accuses him of abandoning her before she was born, he’s stunned. He decides she must be mistaken because there’s no way he’d abandon his child, ever, and especially not after what he went through with his own father.
Amenadiel figures that Lucifer must have been with a woman in the late ’90s, and Lucifer realizes he was on Earth at a massive Super Bowl party in Miami in 1999. Naturally, he must investigate the situation and interview all of the women to prove Rory (Brianna Hildebrand) wrong. But he can’t.
You never want to see shows use plot devices to move the story along, especially this late in the game, but the introduction of Lucifer’s daughter is absolutely the right way to go. Suddenly, the future doesn’t look as idyllic as he’d hoped. He has a daughter but Lucifer hasn’t been in her life. Why?
This episode has a “This Is Your Life” feel as Lucifer revisits women from his past, and it’s a lot of fun. More importantly, it allows Lucifer and Chloe to once again do what they do best by solving a case. Though they didn’t intend to “work” on this trip, they can’t turn their backs on a missing young woman, especially not after finding a camp with trafficked young people being held against their will.
This is another episode that allows Chloe and Lucifer a chance to shine as the partners that they are. Everything is going along pretty well until Rory appears at Chloe’s house and reveals that she’s Chloe’s daughter. Naturally, this will have a huge impact on the rest of the season.
